This summer, Canada will be turning 150 years young. To mark the occasion, Garneau is rolling out a commemorative kit, tailor-made for riders who want to fly their country’s colours high.
Louis Garneau, who has earned both the Order of Canada and the National Order of Quebec, spoke with pride about the forthcoming collection.
“We hope that this design, which combines modernity and history, will appeal to Canadian riders,” Garneau said, announcing the kit’s release. Called the Canada 150 kit, the design blends the colourful, the modern and the traditional, with esthetics that celebrate Canadian identity. The camouflage pattern on the shoulders is composed of three different maple-leaf drawings, each of which represents a different incarnation of Canada’s national symbol since 1867. Elsewhere on the jersey, the words “true, north, strong and free,” a reference to Canada’s national anthem, appear in both English and French alongside images of the beaver, as well as the official logo of Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
The president-designer and founder of Garneau Canada is so fired up about the commemorative kit, in fact, that he’s inviting riders to hit the road on July 1 in the new gear to celebrate their country’s birthday.
“We invite them to head out for a 150-km ride, in teams or in groups, next July 1 for a truly memorable 150th anniversary,” Garneau said.
The kit and its related accessories will be available as of March 2017, and a list of retail locations will be announced on Feb. 1.
